Committees
Promotions and Marketing – The primary function of this committee is to promote historic downtown Kernersville with brochures, promotional events and advertising programs. The purpose is to make the downtown area highly visible to the public by promoting a positive image that attracts consumers and investors. A healthy, vibrant downtown is an important economic development asset for the entire Town of Kernersville.
Physical Image – The primary function of this committee is to improve the way downtown Kernersville looks by encouraging both public and private investment in downtown. This committee works with the property owners and business owners to invest in their buildings and facades, to provide and maintain attractive storefronts, to encourage the planting of flowers and trees and to keep the downtown area neat and clean. This committee also works with the Town of Kernersville to make streetscape improvements such as sidewalks, trash receptacles, park benches and other enhancements. The Physical Image committee also manages the “Downtown Spotlight” program to provide recognition to businesses that have made recent contributions to the beautification of downtown Kernersville.
Economic Development – The primary function of this committee is to maintain a high occupancy rate in downtown Kernersville by working with property owners, business owners, the Chamber of Commerce, the Town of Kernersville and other interested stakeholders to make the downtown area a desirable, affordable, attractive place for both business and residential uses.
Depot – The primary function of this committee is to oversee the renovations to the Depot and to make monthly reports to the KDPDC Board of Directors in regards to the expenditure of the Harmon Linville Funds and other funds raised for the Depot renovation.
Fundraising – The primary function of this committee is to raise sufficient funds to cover the unfunded portion of KDPDC’s operating budget, as well as any special fund-raisers to support specific causes as outlined by the Board of Directors.
Personnel Committee – The primary function of this committee is to evaluate the performance of the Executive Director and make recommendations to the Board of Directors pertaining to the Executive Director’s salary and benefits. In addition, the Chairman of this committee will be responsible for approving vacation requests, sick days, comp time, etc.
Organization – The primary function of this committee is to recommend and approve new members of the KDPDC Board of Directors. This committee would also be responsible for a periodic review of the organization’s mission and to make recommendations to the Board of Directors pertaining to proposed changes to the organization’s bylaws or operating procedures.
F OOT PATROL
The Kernersville Police Department provides foot patrol in the central business district.
The Kernersville Police Department gets to know business owners and downtown regulars and gets to know what problems downtown faces with officers dedicated to the district.
